Critique from Judge Pauline Luxmoore-Ball

I was very honoured to judge this well run and atmospheric show. Thank you to everyone who had entered including those that were unable to make it on the day due to the horrendous weather conditions with the arrival of Storm Bert. Almost all exhibitors took my decisions in a sporting manner. Committee and hospitality was excellent, as always. Thank you to my lovely, and capable stewards, Jenny and Tracy.  There were some familiar faces ringside (not exhibitors), but the one person I would have loved to see there, couldn’t be – the wonderful, irrepressible, and unreplaceable Di Johnson. She’d ‘nagged’ me for years to judge the breed, and it was a shame she didn’t get to see that relentless support that she showed many, not just me, culminating in this appointment today. I know she’d be looking down, with Carl, saying ‘Well Done Pauline, you did your own thing’. It was nice to see, on reading the catalogue on the way home, that some of my awards went to related progeny, for instance my Best Veteran In Show, was mother to the Best Bitch.

YEARLING DOG 2,1
1st MacKenzie’s Islandrose a Not to Vincent at Carsan (IKC)
Lovely head and expression. Good bone with a nice croup. Impressive for age, still developing but shows a lot of promise. Nice feet. Has an air of nobility. Fair movement in profile.  Would prefer more stifle and needs to tighten in rear but maturity should sort that out. RBD
SPECIAL OPEN MANTLE DOG 1,0
1st Pocock’s Ch/Lux/Swiss Ch Tamzdane Empower Mint JW
Well balanced with good reach and drive. Masculine head, nice dark eye. Good bone and feet. Excelled in profile, on the move and in repose. Good out and back. A super prospect who I liked considerably. BD & BIS
SPECIAL OPEN BLUE 3, 2
1st MacKenzie’s Islandrose a Not to Vincent at Carsan (IKC)
MINOR PUPPY BITCH 5,2
1st White’s Jutlander’s Eat Your Heart Out
Pretty fawn girl. Very much the baby but balanced, in proportion and with a feminine head and lovely expression. Good topline and croup, lovely front. Moved well and handled to advantage. BPB & BPIS
2nd Cope & Thorns Fonblanque Fiona
Harlequin with a happy disposition, easy in profile. Loved her overall balance. Head still developing but shows promise. Good feet and bone. Not handled to advantage on the day, which cost her in the go around.
3rd Page & Concannon’s Novavida When Birds Sing
Alot to like. Head is okay. Good bone, and croup. Needs to tidy up out and back, could be tidier, but sound.
PUPPY BITCH 1,0
1st Walton’s Ravendale Mustang Sally
Fawn baby, still very raw in head, and in movement. However, she is nice in repose and has a good croup. Needs to tighten in front feet. Good arch of neck. A shapely bitch that justs needs to come together.
JUNIOR BITCH 1,0
1st Ferguson’s Renescent Too Hot To Handle for Chateaudain Lux JCH
Feminine bitch, a bit lighter in bone that I’d prefer. Has sufficient neck, with good overall balance. Shown in well-muscled condition. Good topline and croup. Could be a touch tidier going away, but her easy, profile gait and extension is pleasing.
NOVICE BITCH
1st Walton’s Ravendale Mustang Sally
Movement was a touch better this time around.
POST GRADUATE BITCH 6,3
1st Merwicks Taradanes Star Vision for Saalan
Feminine, brindle bitch. Won out on her movement. Nice head and expression. Well-muscled with a good croup. Easy class winner.
2nd Teese’s Primus Belle Starr (AI) TAF
Head and eye are good. Well-muscled with good croup. Steady out and back, but would prefer better profile movement. Good bone.
3rd Evans Belarosedane Beany Babybel
Front could be cleaner. Holds topline well, with good croup. Nice in profile and pushed hard for 2nd. Could swap places on another day.
LIMIT BITCH
1st Baker’s Taradanes Shining Star Over Preveli
Balanced with lovely proportions in the main, however I would prefer a tad more leg length. Feminine head and super expression. Good topline and croup. Moved well with lovely profile. BB, BOS & RBIS
2nd Evan’s Belarosedane Lady Bayleigh
Harlequin girl with lovely head and expression. Good bone, though a touch narrow in front and didn’t have the keel of 1. Untidy going away and topline needs to tighten. Shows promise but needs more muscle in the right places.
OPEN BITCH 1,0
1st Worsley’s Encore Avec Malpa
Fawn bitch, feminine head and expression. Nice front, good bone, correct topline and croup. Has a real elegance about her. Easy mover, lovely in profile and handled to advantage, at just the right speed.
SPECIAL VETERAN BITCH 5,2
1st White’s Jutlanders Are Your Ready JW (IMP DAN)
Beautifully balanced, fawn bitch with good bone. Still has a real nobility about her. Good feet, and lovely in profile. Very happy disposition. BVIS
2nd Middleton’s Ch Taysca Must De Cartier at Dornour JW
Black bitch. Good bone and carrying excellent muscle tone. Although lacking the rear of 1, she is good in profile.
3rd Middleton’s Rayjen Campaign for Dornoir
Well-muscled, nice head. Good bone. Nicely made with a good shape in repose. A little ‘aware of her surroundings’ today and more confident / experienced handling, would improve overall performance.
SPECIAL HARLEQUIN BITCH 4,2
1st Pocock’s Tamzdane Appley Ever After
Scores for head and expression. Nice bone and overall balance. Lovely, fluid motion in profile. Good feet. Nice croup. RBB
2nd Evan’s Belarosedane Lady Bayleigh
Previously critiqued. Profile movement is lovely, just let down by untidy movement and doesn’t have the strongest of toplines.
SPECIAL OPEN BLACK BITCH 5,3
1st Evans Belarosedane Beany Babybel
Previously critiqued. Better out and back in this class, having been moved a slightly slower pace.
2nd Middleton’s Rayjen Campaign for Dornoir
Not the drive of 1 but seemed more settled in this class than in her previous class.
SPECIAL OPEN BRINDLE BITCH 2,1
1st Merwicks Taradanes Star Vision for Saalan
SPECIAL OPEN BLUE BITCH 2,1
1st Ferguson’s Renescent Too Hot To Handle for Chateaudain Lux JCH
