Full Membership of The Great Dane Club offers many benefits:
As well as the benefits of associate membership, full membership will also include admission to the Club’s Annual General Meeting at which you will be able to have an input on Club matters. Full Membership will entitle you to reduced entry fees for our three annual shows.
Fees: Single membership £8.00 (£32.00 for 5 years). Joint membership (two members) £9.00 (£36.00 for 5 years). Additional members of the same family £1.00. Overseas membership £10.00. Life membership (Single) £75.00. Life membership (Joint) £90.00.
These are renewable on 01st January each year. The club also offers Standing Order & Bank Transfer Payments for members convenience.

GENERAL CODE OF ETHICS

All full and associate members of The Great Dane Club undertake to abide by its general Code of Ethics.

Club members:

1. Will properly house, feed, water and exercise all dogs under their care and arrange for appropriate veterinary attention if and when required.
2. Will agree without reservation that any veterinary surgeon performing an operation on any of their dogs which alters the natural conformation of the animal, or who carries out a caesarean section on a bitch, may report such operation to the Kennel Club.
3. Will agree that no healthy puppy will be culled. Puppies which may not conform to the Breed Standard should be placed in suitable homes.
4. Will abide by all aspects of the Animal Welfare Act.
5. Will not create demand for, nor supply, puppies that have been docked illegally.
6. Will agree not to breed from a dog or bitch which could be in any way harmful to the dog or  to the breed.
7. Will not allow any of their dogs to roam at large or to cause a nuisance to neighbours or those carrying out official duties.
8. Will ensure that their dogs are microchipped and registration of said chip is kept up to date. Wear properly tagged collars and will be kept leashed or under effective control when away from home.
9. Will clean up after their dogs in public places or anywhere their dogs are being exhibited.
10. Will only sell dogs where there is a reasonable expectation of a happy and healthy life and will help with the re-homing of a dog if the initial circumstances change.
11. Will supply written details of all dietary requirements and give guidance concerning responsible ownership when placing dogs in a new home.
12. Will ensure that all relevant Kennel Club documents are provided to the new owner when selling or transferring a dog, and will agree, in writing, to forward any relevant documents at the earliest opportunity, if not immediately available.
13. Will not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers or directly or indirectly allow dogs to be given as a prize or donation in a competition of any kind.  Will not sell by sale or auction Kennel Club registration certificates as stand alone items (not accompanying a dog).
14. Will not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed nor falsely advertise dogs nor mislead any person regarding the health or quality of a dog.
15. That the following age parameters regarding the breeding of Great Dane bitches should be adhered to: A bitch should not be mated before the age of two years or after the age of seven years.
There should be at least 12 months between litters and a bitch should only produce two litters in any 24 month period. * In all matters affecting the breeding, health and fitness of a dog, the professional advise of a qualified veterinary surgeon takes precedence over these guidelines.
16. Breach of these provisions may result in expulsion from club membership, and/or disciplinary action by the Kennel Club and/or reporting to the relevant authorities for legal action, as appropriate.

Rules & Regulations

The Officers acknowledge that during the month of January each year Maintenance of Title fee will be forwarded to the Kennel Club by the Secretary for the continuance of registration and that by 31st July each year, other returns, as stipulated in Kennel Club Regulations for the Registration and Maintenance of Title of Societies will be forwarded to the Kennel Club.
The Officers also acknowledge their duty to inform the Kennel Club of any change of Secretary of the Society which may occur during the course of the year.
The Officers acknowledge their duty to inform the Kennel Club of the month in which the Society’s Annual General Meeting is held and to notify the Kennel Club of any subsequent amendments to that date.

1 – NAME. This Club shall be called “The Great Dane Club”.
2 – OBJECTS. Its objects shall be to improve the breed of Great Danes and to make the qualities and type of the breed better known; to define precisely and publish a description of the same and to urge the adoption of such type upon Breeders, Judges and Exhibitors as the recognised standard by which Great Danes are to be judged; also to guarantee classes at Shows, award prizes for competition and generally assist the breed.
3 – MEMBERS. The Club shall consist of an unlimited number of members, whose names and addresses shall be entered in a register kept for that purpose by the Hon. Secretary, which register shall be open to inspection by members and the Kennel Club at the Annual General Meeting and at any other time by arrangement.
4 – ADMISSION. Each Candidate for admission shall be proposed and seconded by Members of the Club, one of whom shall be a Committee Member.
5 – SUBSCRIPTION. A member shall pay an Annual Subscription due on 1st January of such sums for single or joint membership as may be proposed by the Committee and passed at an Annual General Meeting with the approval of the Kennel Club.
A Life Member shall make a single payment for man and wife or partners, such payment to be determined by the Committee and passed at the AGM with the approval of the Kennel Club.
The payment of the Subscription shall be a distinct acknowledgement of and acquiescence in the Rules and Regulations of the Club.
Fee paying Members shall not use the fact of their membership for Advertising or Publicity purposes for financial gain.
No member under 16 years of age or whose subscription remains unpaid shall be allowed to vote in Committee or General Meetings.
No member exhibiting may be awarded any of the Club’s special prizes or trophies unless their current subscription and all other amounts due to the club have been paid.
6 – OFFICERS. The Officers of the Club shall be appointed by the Committee and shall consist of:- (a) A President and not more than four Vice Presidents, who shall be appointed for life. A life appointment may be terminated by the unanimous vote of the Committee and the other officers holding life appointments, with the approval of the Kennel Club.
(b) A Secretary, a Treasurer and any other Officers deemed advisable, who shall be appointed for a term of three years and shall be eligible for re-appointment.
The Officers of the Club shall be ex-officio members of the Committee with individual voting rights. 
7 – COMMITTEE.
(a) The Committee shall consist of the Officers listed in Rule 6, plus not more than twelve members elected at the Annual General Meeting, who shall retire annually and be eligible for re-election.
(b) The Committee shall elect a Chairman and Vice Chairman from among its Members and Officers at the first Committee Meeting following the AGM.
(c) The Chairman and Vice Chairman shall hold office for one year and shall be eligible for re- election. They shall preside at Committee meetings and at General Meetings during their term of office.
(d) The Committee shall have power to delegate any part of its authority for a specified purpose, to a Sub-Committee, consisting of the Secretary or another Officer and two or more Members of the Committee.
(e) The Committee shall have power to consult or obtain advice and assistance from any person, whether a Member of the Club or not, in furtherance of the objects of the Club.
(f) The Committee shall have power to co-opt to fill casual vacancies, up to the maximum prescribed in (a) above. Co-opted Members shall retire and submit themselves for election at the next AGM.
(g) If any Member shall miss three consecutive Committee Meetings without furnishing reasons accepted by the Committee, he or she shall be deemed to have resigned and the Committee may fill the casual vacancy by co-option, in accordance with sub para (f) above.
(h) “No person, whilst serving as a committee member or officer of any other Great Dane Club, may serve on the committee or as an officer.
8 – ELECTION OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEE.
(a) Nominations to replace or re-appoint officers retiring in accordance with Rule 6 shall be made by the Committee.
(b) Members eligible for election to the Committee shall be of two or more consecutive years standing immediately prior to the election and shall have notified the Secretary in writing of their willingness to stand, by two calendar months before the date of the AGM
(c) If more than twelve candidates seek election, the Secretary shall send to each subscribing member of more than one year’s standing, not less than 21 days before the date of the AGM, a voting paper containing an alphabetical list of the candidates eligible and consenting to election.
(d) Members shall place an X against the names (up to but not exceeding twelve in total) of those candidates they wish to elect and shall return the form in a sealed envelope marked “voting paper” to reach a Custodian appointed by the Committee, at least 48 hours before the date of the AGM.
(e) The voting papers shall be opened and counted by three scrutineers appointed by the Committee of whom two will be non-members of the Club and of professional status and the twelve candidates receiving most votes shall be declared elected at the AGM.
(f) The Kennel Club representative shall be elected at the AGM according to Kennel Club Regulations. The name of the K.C. Representative shall be transmitted in writing to the Kennel Club signed by the Secretary and by the Chairman of the AGM.
9 – PROPERTY. The Property of the Club shall be vested in Trustees, who shall be appointed by the Committee.
10 – MANAGEMENT. The entire management of the Club, including the confirmation of membership, shall be entrusted to the Committee as a Corporate body whose decision shall be final. No individual member of the Committee may acquire or seek to exercise individual authority or constituency representation.
The Committee shall have power to deal with any questions relating to the management of the Club not provided for by these rules.
11 – COMMITTEE MEETINGS. There shall be meetings of the Committee as often as may be deemed necessary. Any seven Members shall form a quorum. Not less than fourteen clear days previous notice in writing shall be given or sent by post by the Hon. Secretary to all Member of the Committee, with a written Agenda of matters for discussion.
12 – GENERAL MEETING. A General Meeting of the Members of the Club shall be held at least once a year and not less than twenty one days previous notice in writing shall be given or sent by post, by the Secretary to all members of the Club with a written Agenda of matters for discussion. Any twenty one Members shall for a quorum.
(a) Closing date for items submitted by Members for inclusion of the AGM agenda shall be 2 calendar months before the date of the AGM.
13 – EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL MEETING. A special General Meeting shall be called by the Secretary within 60 days on receipt of a requisition signed by at least ten members, stating the proposition to be discussed and accompanied by a deposit of £10 per signatory, minimum total £100. No business other than the matter on the agenda may be discussed at a Special General Meeting. A Solicitor (appointed by the Committee) may be specially invited to attend. The deposit shall be refunded if in the opinion of the meeting, with at least two thirds voting in favour, the proposition to be discussed is of sufficient importance. All expenses incurred in arranging such a meeting shall be borne by the Club. Such meetings must not clash with any canine event of importance, which would prevent attendance.
14 – VOTING BY PROXY. Proxy votes will not be allowed.
15 – REPORTS OF MEETINGS. No Member shall take upon themselves to publish or cause to be published, either in part or in whole, in writing or by word of mouth an account of the proceedings of either a General or Committee Meeting. Reports of the proceedings may be furnished to the Press or to members by the Chairman and Hon. Secretary only, to whom all enquiries should be addressed or by a duly appointed Press Officer with their authority.
16 – OFFICERS HONORARY. All Officers of the Club shall be Honorary and no member shall be allowed to make the Club a means of private speculation or trade or directly or indirectly derive a money profit there from.
17 – NEW RULES. All new Rules or alterations of existing Rule or the reversal of any former act or decision shall be made at a General Meeting and shall appear on the agenda convening the Meeting. Such new Rules or alterations of existing Rules or the reversal of any former act or decisions shall not be adopted unless they receive the sanction of at least two-thirds of the Members voting.
18 – FINANCE. All the expenses properly incurred by the Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer and other authorised persons performing duties with the consent of the Committee, for or on behalf of the Club, shall be defrayed out of the funds of the Club alone. No individual Member shall be deemed to incur any responsibility in respect of the same.
19 – ANNUAL REPORT. An Annual Report shall be published in the Club Bulletin following the AGM. The annual Abstract of Accounts, fully audited by a qualified accountant shall be published likewise and the books open for inspection by Members of the Club at the AGM.
20 – EXPULSION OF MEMBERS. Any member who shall be suspended under Kennel Club Rule A42j (4) and/or any member whose dog(s) is/are disqualified under Kennel Club Rule A42j(8) shall ipso facto cease to be a Member of the Society for the duration of the suspension and/or disqualification.
If the conduct of any member shall, in the opinion of the Committee of the Society be injurious or likely to be injurious to the character or interest of the Society, the Committee of the Society may, at a meeting the notice convening which includes as an object the consideration of the conduct of the Member, determine that a Special General Meeting of the Society shall be called for the purpose of passing a resolution to expel him/her.
Notice of the Special General Meeting shall be sent to the accused Member, giving particulars of the complaint and advising the place, date and hour of the meeting that he/she may attend and offer an explanation. If at the meeting a resolution to expel is passed by a two thirds majority of the Members present and voting, his/her name shall forthwith be erased from the list of Members and he/she shall thereupon cease for all purposes to be a member of the Society except that he/she may within two calendar months from the date of such Meeting appeal to the Kennel Club upon and subject to such condition as the Kennel Club may impose.
21 – RESIGNATION OF MEMBERS. It shall be competent for any Member to withdraw from the Club on giving or sending notice of his/her intention, in writing to the Secretary at least one month before the 31st December in any year.
Any Member so leaving the Club shall not be entitled to receive back any money they may have paid to the Club during their membership or have any claim against the Club.
22 – KENNEL CLUB. The Great Dane Club acknowledge the Kennel Club as the final court of appeal in all cases of dispute.
23 – BANKRUPTS. No person whilst an undischarged bankrupt may serve on the Committee or hold any other office or appointment within a Kennel Club registered Society.
