Our first Dane was a black bitch called Suki St Milburgh Tumeberlina. She was shown in 1982. Before her show career was cut short by a freak accident, she won quite a few black classes and was best black bitch at the Midland and West Great Dane Club colour format. She also got a RCC under Jean Cameron.
We have continued to show and Breed blacks and blues.
I am a Championship Judge for Great Danes having awarded 10 set of CC. I also give CC in Miniature Pinchers.
I was involved in the Great Dane Club being on the committee and a Vice President until I resigned in 2009.
Since 2000 we have added to our home miniature pinschers and have had some success showing and breeding them.

I was appointed President of the Great Dane Club in 2022

Miss Helen Laidlaw
Vice President, Hon. Secretary, Merchandise Officer

I owned my first Great Dane Talula, a fawn bitch, in 1989. I breed very occasionally and have been very lucky to qualify one of my pups for D.O.T.Y. and another to make the Kennel Club Junior Warrent Finals at Crufts. I am owned by six Great Danes at the moment, three generations, all living in the house with myself and my partner Denys. Currently I show two very naughty youngsters, to everyone’s amusement.

Mr Raj Ellis-Khanna
Vice President, Vice Chairman, Assistant Championship Show Manager &
Webmaster

I fell in love with the breed when I had my first Great Dane, Harvey, in 2001. I have been around the show world since 2003 and was given the opportunity to join The Great Dane Club Committee in 2010. I help run The Great Dane Club Championship Show that is held at Crick (Northamptonshire) in August, and have taken over the clubs website. In 2023 I gratefully received the honour to become one of three Vice Presidents of the club.

Mr David Simpson
Vice President, Treasurer and Club Health Officer

Having grown up with Rhodesian Ridgebacks in my family, I finally got my first Great Dane, a Brindle Male in 1999. My wife and I are very lucky to share our lives with several generations of both Danes and Ridgebacks and hope to have many more adventures ahead. I first joined the GDC committee in 2003 and have served in several positions, including Cup Steward, Merchandiser and Treasurer.
As well as my role in the Great Dane Club, I am very grateful to be able to give something back to the breeds I love through my work as Breed Health Coordinator for both Danes and Ridgebacks and KCLC Breed Representative for Great Danes. I recently put together the BC Great Dane Health Survey, which had a great response, and look forward to working on future projects.

Mrs Anna Ellis-Khanna
Membership Secretary & Championship Show Manager.

Chief Steward

I have been a Dane slave for 29 years thanks to my first black rescue girl introducing me to this wonderful breed. I then fell in love at Crufts with Blue’s which is where my passion now lies although I currently share my life with a Blue male and a Harlequin girl. I look forward to handing over some fabulous trophies to you all at our club shows.

Joanne Walton
Discover Dogs Co-Ordinator

I breed and show Great Danes and French Bulldogs, something I have done for well over 30 years. My dogs are health tested, and I am a Kennel Club Assured Breeder with Accolade of Excellence.
I have bred many champions, both UK & International – and made breed history on a number of occasions, breeding the very first Great Dane born by AI in the UK who went on to become a Champion and to take Best of Breed at Crufts 2010 and then 10 years later bred the first ever Mantle Champion in the UK who went on to take Best of Breed at Crufts 2020 – things that I am extremely proud of. I am a championship show judge awarding CC’s in the breed. These days I spend time giving something back to the breed I love so much by participating in The Great Dane Club as a committee member and coordinator of Crufts Discover Dogs for Great Danes every year.

I have been around Great Danes since owning my first in 1993. I am dedicated to the breed and even have a Great Dane Tattoo.

Tess Concannon

I breed and show Great Danes with my best friend Lisa Page, also a committee member.  I am really interested in all health, genetic & colour testing for Great Danes.
We are very proud to have been awarded our very first Championship Certificate at the Bournemouth Championship Show in 2022 by the renowned all rounder Judge Mr Frank Kane (the voice of Crufts!)
I have only been on the committee a short time but am really enjoying it.
My next challenge is to become a Judge.
