DOG CRITIQUE

THE GREAT DANE CLUB OPEN SHOW 22/11/15

Thank you to the committee for this kind invitation to judge such a magnificent breed. As a breeder of giant breeds myself i know how difficult it is to get breed type and general good conformation and movement all in one package and admire anyone who gets this right .. in todays entry i felt i needed 2 lots of prize cards, those that looked right and those that moved well .. clearly my priority was breed type over anything else and my placements reflected that .

MINOR PUPPY DOG (1,0)

1)RENESCENT ITS HAMMER TIME – black boy with good head planes , however needs to grow into his ears, good bone and good length to upper arm , topline needs to settle and displays the correct lithe and springy action in side gait .

PUPPY DOG (3,1)

1)BOURNTWYN IN FOR A PENNY –such a balanced outlook to this boy , better coupled than 2 , head ok and still developing , enough neck and super topline , excellent eye , balanced and controlled side gait .

2)SARAWEN ARCHDEACON –of a bigger frame than one , masculine head , needs to settle in movement and topline , which cost him the class.

JUNIOR DOG (4,0)

1)SELMALDA THE JOURNEY –draws a lovely picture stood , masculine and powerfull looking, has size and substance, excellent coupling, hard topline , super head ideal proportions , has length to leg but would benefit from more leg, movement could be better .

2)SELMALDA JOURNEY TO THE LINE – longer cast than 1 , another with a strong masculine head with good muzzle to skull ratio , he too could benefit from more neck , scored in side gait .

YEARLING DOG (5,1)

1)CH LEAMAP WHISKEY GALORE –SMASHING young black dog with the most beautifull head piece, parallel planes, with ideal lip and giving correct expression , a darker eye would enhance. So well made and good to go over, stands on good legs and moves so well in all directons , pushed so hard for best male , however just preferred the harder topline and side gait of the winning fawn . i can see why this handsome black is already a champion .

2)SELMALDA JOURNEY TO THE LINE

NOVICE DOG
1)MADJAX THE MACHIAVELLIAN –best construction and general carriage in this class, his markings are not ideal but well within the standard, head planes are good ,very clean front action and the correct springy side gait .

POST GRADUATE DOG (4,2)

1)LINDEFAAY HEARTBREAKER –excellent head planes and neck , upstanding male , has the correct bearing would prefer him shorter in backline for ideal balance, and needs to muscle up which showed in his movement .

2)MADJAX THE MACHIAVELLIAN

LIMIT DOG (3,2)

1)DAINOAK FIDES AT VERITAS –so well constructed and sound on the move, has purpose in his stride and clean action in all directions, strong bodied and boned, head is good just would prefer more clarity of colour

OPEN DOG (1,0)

1)CH SELMALDA KOOCHIE RYDER –typy outline, super head and quizzical expression, excellent head planes, good eye , excellent head carriage, good forchest not too overdone , excellent topline, would like a touc more length to leg for ideal bearings, excelled in topline and sidegait which took him to best male and RBIS

BRINDLE OPEN (1,0)

1)DROOLAKIS MANSON –super headed male with excellent head planes and correct expression, good neck and such proud bearings, moving well in all directions, a touch long cast for me and would prefer better brindle markings .

BLUE OPEN (1,0)

1)LEAMAP CHIVAS REGAL –such a well made blue, ideal on hands on inspection , super shoulder and blanced angles, strong bodied and bones, short back and hard backline , so sound moving on the move, considered him in the final three, could have more neck and length to leg for elegance .

Harlequin open (3,0)

1)BANDWAR HAPPY AS LARRY – apprehensive today and with some work came around , good outline and decent head, good torn pathes on body , moved out well to start with but was giving up in shoulder in the challange. Quality dog .
